IPVV — V3-O ARGUMENT MAP (the tattvasaṅgrahādhikāra tṛtīyo vimarśa: the essence of knower, known, bond, and liberation, kārikās 9–15)
MACHINE_DRAFT · 3 premises
Question. The tattvasaṅgraha's middle section (kārikās 9–15) expounds the bond (bandha) and its relation to the knower and the known. The central problem: the bound knower (paśu) creates his own world — but how is this creation related to the Lord's creation? And what is the difference between the bound and the liberated? Kārikās 9–15 answer: the paśu's creation is *asādhāraṇī* (un-common, private), sustained by the Lord's creation (k9–10); the Lord's own creation is *sādhāraṇā* (common), and through the abandonment of construction (vikalpahāna) one attains the Lord-ness (k11–12); the known is common, but the liberated knows it with the own-self-non-difference (k13); in the supreme Śiva there is no separate known at all (k14); and the fruit is the samyag jñāna-kriyā, the while-living-liberated (k15).
Issue. **The question:** The tattvasaṅgraha's middle section (kārikās 9–15) expounds the bond (bandha) and
its relation to the knower and the known. The central problem: the bound knower (paśu) creates his own
world — but how is this creation related to the Lord's creation? And what is the difference between the
bound and the liberated? Kārikās 9–15 answer: the paśu's creation is *asādhāraṇī* (un-common, private),
sustained by the Lord's creation (k9–10); the Lord's own creation is *sādhāraṇā* (common), and through
the abandonment of construction (vikalpahāna) one attains the Lord-ness (k11–12); the known is common,
but the liberated knows it with the own-self-non-difference (k13); in the supreme Śiva there is no
separate known at all (k14); and the fruit is the samyag jñāna-kriyā, the while-living-liberated (k15).
Premises

> un-knowing-ness, in-the-existing-alone, with the Lord-power, with the that-self —
The paśu's un-common (asādhāraṇī) creation is the Lord-creation-dependent (īśasṛṣṭyujīvinī) — it
subsists on the back of the Lord's creation. It is per-knower, per-time, devoid of other-knower-state-
following. The objection: "if the paśu creates, is it not common like the Lord's?" — No: the paśu's
own power is un-known to him (being other-dependent), and only the Lord-ness awakens it. From the
un-cognition alone comes the bound/liberated-ness. The māyā-power of the Lord — the word-mass body, the
world-re-recollection-form — is the varṇadevatā-wheel, the eight-fold class (vargāṣṭaka), the

> With the own-rest-obstruction, with the moving, with the breath-form; with the construction-action,
> the that-that-syllable-variety-form —
The construction-action (vikalpakriyā), of the breath-form, is for the obstruction of the own rest. The
māyāśakti (in the māyā-word, the kriyātmikā) binds the paśu (the Spa. 3.16). The kṣetrajña's creations
are sabhittika (based, on the Lord's), not nirbhittika. The varṇadevatās (the ka-and-the-rest) are
the infinite syllable-forms. Even the free constructions (the "king-I-stand") are, on inspection,
parādhīnā (other-dependent). The māyā's three parts (tucchatābhāsa, vaiparītyābhāsa, nañartha) spread
with the three stains.

> construction-removal, from-the-one-pointedness, by-order, the-Lord-ness-word —
The Lord's creation is clear-manifestation (spaṣṭāvabhāsana), hence un-constructed; it is sādhāraṇa or
asādhāraṇa (the double-moon), both other-than the paśu's creation. When, by the abandonment of
construction and the one-pointedness, the paśu attains the "I-this" Lord-ship-re-recollection, he
destroys his animal-ness and shows the Lord-ness (the Vīrāvalī-Bhairava 113). Even the paśu's creation,
if known with the Lord's power, becomes sādhāraṇa. In the dream, the constructions are clear or
un-clear; the all-known-common-ness. The pratyayasṛṣṭi (the cognition-creation) is the

Unresolved. 1. The "daśaradana" (ten-tusked vs. ten-faced) elephant (k10) — the correct reading is ten-tusked
(Airāvata); the earlier T1 gloss "ten-faced" was a mis-gloss, corrected per Ratié.
2. The exact "sabhittika/nirbhittika" (based/un-based) creations of the kṣetrajña (k10).
