IPVV — V2-J ARGUMENT MAP (the pañcamo vimarśa: the saṃskāra-vimarśa and the determination as the Lord's power, kārikās 19–20)

MACHINE_DRAFT · 1 premises
Question. The vimarśa (reflexive-awareness) has been shown to be the manifestation's nature and the source of the powers. Now Abhinavagupta must show that even the *impression* (saṃskāra) — the seed of memory — and the *determination* (adhyavasāya) are the vimarśa. The memory-seed is laid and awakened only by the vimarśa; and the determination "this jar" — the very act of taking the object as "This" — is itself the param-Lord's power, manifesting like the self, not by the this-ness.
Issue. **The question:** The vimarśa (reflexive-awareness) has been shown to be the manifestation's nature and the source of the powers.

Premises

The saṃskāra-vimarśa
The remembering of the convention (saṃketa) depends on the saṃskāra-ādhāna (the laying of the impression) and the saṃskāra-prabodhana (the awakening); and these two cannot be done by the non-construction (nirvikalpaka). For "the strong experience lays the memory-seed; from the seeing of the like, its awakening." And the strong-ness of the experience is nothing other than the vimarśa-viśrānti (the resting in the reflexive-awareness). The Bhaṭṭa's "the growth of it is the strong-ness" — there too the growth is the pramātṛ-viśrānti, the "I, thus, shine" — the vimarśa-form. Without the vimarśa-form, how would the impression be laid or awakened? (The Bhaṭṭa's verse: "the manifest light, for the own-meaning, the saṃskāra-awakener; else, even in the vikalpa, its operation would not be wished.") I
Unresolved. 1. The Bhaṭṭa's verses and the nālikera (coconut-island) example — cited; the applications preserved. 2. The "mārgagamana" (the going on the road) example — kept close to the text.
